Unreleased Super Mario game
Super Mario’s Wacky Worlds was an unreleased Mario world sequel for the Phillip’s CDI console. It would have involved Mario exploring levels based on historic places, such as Egypt and the Trojan horse, along with unique themed levels such as jungles, haunted houses, etc. it was eventually scrapped, due to the commercial failure of the Phillip’s CDI console. The image above is one of the only three known prototype discs left. This is sad, because this definitely could have been one of the greatest games on the CDI, and would’ve been a great addition to the Mario series.

Interesting! Have any of the bits of the game code or content gotten out into the wild? Or are they lost/stuck on those discs?
ReplyDeleteWe have only one build of the game (labeled version 0.11) which doesn’t give use much, and it’s possible that more developing was done after this, but we will most likely never know. There are forty levels in he game, thirteen of which don’t load anything if selected (it’s possible that the developers deleted some stuff.) there is a working build of the game archived online, but it’s glitchy in some areas because it was never completed. Nintendo never really announced wacky worlds, so we don’t know much that was planned.
